If you are reading this, you enjoy the openness and decentralisation of Web 3.0.

On , let's fast-forward to the future.

@EU_Commission Not now, we’re just trying to survive at the moment.

@EU_Commission this is not web3.0, please talk to Sir TBL and figure out what is Web3.0.

@EU_Commission Respectfully, this reads like a comedic parody of government officials not understanding the thing they are regulating.

@EU_Commission oh my lord can we please drop the silly "Web 3.0 / 4.0" buzzwords already? Pretty please? 🙄

They've been utterly taken over by cryptocurrency peddlers and other snakeoil salesmen. They are unnecessary even if they hadn't been taken over.

Instead, can we focus on making the web we have trustworthy, privacy-preserving, and safe? :blobcatcoffee:

@EU_Commission We used to have a decentralised Internet in the 90s. It was called "the Internet".

@EU_Commission this is bad snake oil sales and the EU name should not be attached to it. Not only are you parroting the bad faith misrepresentation of web history that was concocted by idiot scammers who failed to understand the actual engineering aspects of their metaverse promise. You are also pathetically late to the party by shilling this shit a year behind, when the crypto bubble has already bursted and Zuck has already discontinued his store brand Second Life.

@EU_Commission, wasn’t Web 3.0 supposed to be that blockchain-based atrocity, which never really took off?

I appreciate that the #EU is looking forward, but am concerned about the need to wrap everything up in a tech-bro hype and industry appeal in order to seem modern and cool.

An actually avant-garde approach would be to take a look at the implications of technology and what kind of society #EU citizens want to live in (GDPR was a good example here).

@EU_Commission

Instead of the three politicians' avatars to promote Web 4.0, would it not be better to use avatars representing #Equity, #Inclusion, #Accessibility and #Diversity ?

This is terrific how @EU_Commission demonstrates treating #fediverse as another cog in the propaganda machine that has been "social media". Well done to everyone who replied here and showed that a non bot and troll infested platform will not tolerate being patronised.

@EU_Commission don’t even try to push forward to this Web 4.0 and metaverse nonsense. Thank you.

@EU_Commission is this a parody?
Noone outside of cryptobros/VC funds wants anything to deal with Web3.0/4.0/5.0.

@EU_Commission I don’t want still another x.0 version. When something doesn’t work as well as it should, engineers make the .1, the .5, the .5.17 version… Communicators promise the (n+1).0 version, the one that will replace all what is wrong by something that is new. But we don’t want new, we want progressively better. Because new ignore all the complexities that were studied in the previous model, just to be disruptive. Don’t conflate change with progress.

@EU_Commission

LOL.

Show me one major EU-lead "web development" that has taken place, except for the legally mandated cookies nagware and a brazillion "legitimate interest" checkboxen.
