🔴 We designated Apple’s iPadOS as a gatekeeper under the Digital Markets Act.

Our investigation shows that its tablet operating system is an important gateway for businesses to reach consumers due to its large and commercially attractive user base and its importance for specific use cases.

We also discovered that Apple leverages its large ecosystem to disincentivise end users from switching to other tablet operating systems.

We will keep monitoring compliance very closely.

@EU_Commission Let's go! Was disappointed it was not declared as a gatekeeper originally. This is a good development.

@EU_Commission @stroughtonsmith What are Apple meant to do? Use their large platform to incentivise users to switch to another platform?

@EU_Commission you don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to technology, and you’ve decided that everything (except protected EU-based stuff) needs to be equally crappy.

@EU_Commission Please put an end to Apple's ridiculous, anti-consumer "Core Technology Fee" as soon as you can. Or say that Apple can charge the same CTF for iOS that it does for macOS (which is none at all).

@EU_Commission What about the other Apple products, Iwatch, VR, etc, you can’t sideload anything in those.

@EU_Commission After all, iOS and iPadOS are the same thing just built with different configurations... In no way the code is completely separated / different to let them be considered a different software product... Otherwise Apple could just "invent" a new OS for each device (iPad 10 OS, iPad Pro OS, iPhone 15 OS)... 😅

@EU_Commission the whole thing doesn’t help as long as there is no real sideloading of *every* app, without Apple still making rules. The fact alone the developer can‘t be in the Appstore and somewhere else is making tje situation worse for the customer.

@EU_Commission are you gonna make them do actual sideloading and not the bs they did originally?
