If you are using Mastodon on a computer or tablet through your server's website, there's an optional Tweetdeck-style advanced web interface which lets you add lots of columns.

Here's how to activate it:

1. Log in through your server's website
2. Go to Preferences
3. Tick the box marked "Enable Advanced Web Interface"
4. Click "Save Changes" at the top

More info about the advanced interface including how to add columns and more at fedi.tips/how-to-activate-mast

Worth noting that this also works rather nicely when set up as a web app on the Galaxy Fold series of phones.... it somehow automatically goes to single column when folded then the full multi-column when unfolded - it'd great.

@feditips I want a mode that widens the left sidebar and allows a larger reply or post text area. It's frustrating trying to reply to a comment with a link or two in that tiny text area. My screen is large enough to allow for it without compressing any other part of the UI.

@feditips I switched to this in Chrome on one of my Tablets to see what it’s like and wasn’t too impressed. I then tried to switch it off again and now my display is stuck in a weird in-between state but it has a bigger posting area which I actually like.
