Every account on here has a unique Fediverse account address, it's written on profile pages underneath the username.

If you want someone to follow you on here, give them your account address.

To follow someone else's address, paste it into the search box and click search. This will make their profile appear.

You can also follow non-Mastodon Fediverse addresses, for example you can paste PeerTube and Pixelfed addresses too.

@feditips What about a link to Follow that we can put on our other sites? I'm guessing this is nontrivial because my blog can't know which Fediverse instance you would use, but it seems to me an important feature to have — copy/paste isn't going to cut it.

Every blog has those follow buttons for the Big Social sites, but even WordPress+ActivityPub can't offer a simple Follow button? There has to be a way…

This is one of the most confusing parts of Mastodon. When you create your account, you are given a LINK to your page on the instance, as though that’s what you should share. So everyone tries to share that instead of their fediverse account address.
I’m convinced that this is one of the major reasons why people say Mastodon is too complicated and give up.

@feditips it's nice to say there's some limitations on how you can interact with those systems into Fediverse.

@feditips #feditips #mastodontips #mastodon there's also useful extension for chrome that gives you clickable links to follow instead of copy-pasting chrome.google.com/webstore/det

@feditips I honestly don't understand how Mastodon doesn't support "let this website handle this scheme" yet. I'm sure it was low priority and our beloved developers will add it at some point.

It would help users a lot that they could set up their instance to handle adding profiles from other instances by clicking links on webpages and stuff.

Similarly a "mastodon://user@instance" URI could be handled by mobile apps.

@feditips what does my account address say about me? I just picked one that sounded fun and went with. Is there more I should be considering?
