All onboard a night train! 🚆

Rail is one of the most sustainable means of transport we have, but cross-border trips account for just 7% of the kilometres travelled by train.

This is why we are supporting 10 pilot projects to create new international train connections in the EU.

They will help us improve the quality of service and make them a viable option for more people.

@EU_Commission Thank you for including the #AltText with the photos you used! Much appreciated! Could you (your communications department) *please* ask all of the other institutions to do the same on their social media, and especially on Mastodon!

@EU_Commission I am beside myself with excitement over this tbh!

@EU_Commission The EU should work on making rail more affordable, and preferably, standardized. Imagine having a ticket/subscription that you can use to travel the whole EU?

@EU_Commission @harphat
This is great.
But it would be really, really great if you could get train operators to co-ordinate their services to make cross-border travel a mundane everyday convenience rather than an epic adventure. @jon

@EU_Commission Why call it pilot projects? Many lines were piloted decades ago. Take this example as a benchmark, work on the pricing and make it a regular service… ameropa.de/bahn-erlebnisreisen

@EU_Commission Connecting WHICH Europe? The central, same-as-always Europe?
More-than-neighbours Galicia & northern Portugal have been waiting for a proper train connection for over half a century (to say the least!) People north and south of the Minho river have learnt to expect nothing with this regard.

@EU_Commission Rubbish, trains need to run frequently on all levels (local, regional, national and international).

Just focussing on trains between a handful of big cities is not going to help. 🥴
