All onboard a night train! 🚆

Rail is one of the most sustainable means of transport we have, but cross-border trips account for just 7% of the kilometres travelled by train.

This is why we are supporting 10 pilot projects to create new international train connections in the EU.

They will help us improve the quality of service and make them a viable option for more people.

@EU_Commission Paris - Stuttgart - Munich - Salzburg - Vienna is a connection which still needs more regular "direct" trains - but I am looking forward to more Night trains. Or one day the InterConnect from Lisboa to Madrid to Paris to Brussels to Berlin to Warsaw to Riga (and if the Baltic tunnel is done to Helsinki)

@EU_Commission That's awesome news. Having to change trains is painful, especially on international routes, and this will help. One more step toward avoiding air travel, for sure.

Personally, I'm excited about that Venice - Paris option, which can give me a reason to connect in Venice between train and ferry on the way from Greece to France.

@EU_Commission Wohooo, so many new connections 🎉

I remember there were plans for a night train connecting Paris and Berlin by the end of 2023. Do you happen to know what happened to that connection?

@EU_Commission how about actually making companies provide good, useful, and affordable cross border high speed connections?

LAV Perpinyà - Figueres sees only a few trains a day

the ICE from Brussels to Frankfurt is overpriced to shit and the trains on the route are literally falling apart

also many european high speed lines have a tendency to just end at the border, maybe work on that?

how about actually coordinating rail construction and train operation on a European level, even beyond just the TEN-T corridors?

@EU_Commission are delegates from EU travelling by rail to various events? We should lead by example.

@EU_Commission things are far worse over here in North America. I'm excited to be taking the train to and from my fall vacation with my wife and friends but on average, train travel isn't even an option for most people in #Canada, despite being a country built around rail.
Good luck! Keep being an example.

@EU_Commission reliability is still a problem imho. We took a night train from Amsterdam to Zurich, but on the way back the sleeper cars were missing and everyone was just forced into coach. Not exactly making us want to risk it again in the future, or reassuring us.

@EU_Commission It was about time... Invest in making traveling by train through the EU more attractive!
