Are you feeling lonely during the festive season? Have you tried the hashtag #JoinIn?

It works like this:

- During Xmas period, or any time, write about what you're doing and include the tag #JoinIn. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate or impressive!

- Search for (or follow) the tag #JoinIn, reply to other people's posts with that tag.

I know it sounds kind of simple, but it's worth trying!

I'm going to be on my own this year due to ongoing pandemic, but will see you at #JoinIn ☕

@feditips I’ll be working all weekend at my hospital I’m contracted at. Work nights and will be at my hotel during the day to sleep. Anyone needing a friend is welcome, especially if you’re not a festive kinda person and this time of year is hard for you. I have my own reasons for not liking this time of year but I’m a good listener

p.s. The tag can be for simple little stuff you're doing that moment, like "I'm having a cup of tea and a nice slice of cake" or whatever. There's no pressure to post anything complex.

Fun little conversations about unimportant stuff may seem trivial when you're not alone, but can be really important to someone who is isolated.

Or the tag can be for expressing how you feel. Whatever helps is good!

@feditips The JoinIn tag is a cool idea and it made me think if Mastodon / ActivityPub could be modified to allow for a channel for a particular topic such “WorldCup” where what you post in it doesn’t go to your main feed, but just allowed you and others watching the same event to experience it in real-time with others taking about it.
