I don't understand why people seem to expect that if they sign up here they must get famous instantly or it's a failure of the platform. Did you not spend years growing your network on Twitter?

@Gargron To be honest I have experienced the opposite, even in the begin stages. People tend to have a lot more interaction on here than for example on Twitter.

What does 'fame' mean?

@Gargron the only accounts I follow on Twitter that are truly worthwhile are ones I found organically through friends or other types of media where I originally discovered them (e.g., linked from Twitch) - things that are completely platform-independent.

@Gargron I think it's a disease of our time that users want to use social networks to become famous and to make money.
Social networks should be and stay "social" - that's why I like the #fediverse!

@Gargron Pretty sure we can probably blame Twitter for that.

@Gargron Additionally: if anyone can get famous instantly with zero effort, fame has no meaning.

@gargron
Don't care about fame, but a bit more (friendly) group dynamic support would be nice. Mastodon is a bit too restricted (e. g. stars & boosts not directly visible for involved third parties and such …). Though I know it's a double-edged issue …

@Gargron I want to network with people, share ideas, and grow as person/artist. Anything else feels pretty secondary, honestly. I'm finding it weird that when I'm looking for opportunities to gain experience, everyone seems to think I'm meaning money lol.

Inversely, if I don't ask for money for something like editing, it seems nobody wants to hire because they feel the work will be inferior. It's the 18 year with 10 years of work experience chicken/egg problem again 🤣

@Gargron I currently have 324 followers on Mastodon. It took me a little over a year.

It took me eight years to get that many followers on Twitter.

@Gargron here's the thing, the hasthags in mastodon is kinda sucks. Each instance has different trends. Thank god it's synced in big server, but small server
