Share of energy from renewable sources in 2022 (%):

This is the way to go, but we must accelerate to meet our 2030 renewable energy target of at least 42.5%.

To achieve it โ€“ among others โ€“ we sped up permitting procedures for projects on renewable energy and proposed a Wind Power Action Plan.

@EU_Commission
This representation is misleading because it says nothing of how the rest of the energy was produced.
For instance, France and Germany look similar with this simple metric. But in France most of the energy comes from nuclear plants, yielding no greenhouse gas emissions; in Germany, it is gas and coal. The ratio of renewable energy is similar, but the French mix is sustainable, while the German mix absolutely is not.

@EU_Commission (Renewable + nuclear) share would me a more interesting metric / target. What's important is low carbon; renewable are only a part of that.

@EU_Commission The problem is that the Belgium transition is hampered by people complaining about the new infrastructure. If somebody wants to build a windmill, there is always somebody filing a complaint, and that delays the permissions to build the mill. The irony is that the complaints are about environmental issues, like shaduws, noice, it spoils the view... Lately somebody said the mill would push poluted air to them, as if it's a ventilator.

@EU_Commission

I love #Estonia, but this #statistic is #misleading.
Estonia burns #OilShale on a large scale, among other things.
The expansion of #WindPower is faltering. Only about 9% of the energy generated comes from wind turbines. Otherwise oil shale and #NaturalGas.
It is probably true for many other countries that these statistics are misleading.

@EU_Commission among others (Italy et al) the Netherlands ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฑ can do better to increase their 15% to much higher values. What is refraining the Dutch from making good steps, like what countries like Sweden have been doing? What are the important differences between leading/guiding countries and the countries with lower percentages? What can we (Dutch society) learn from that and do different?

Worth noticing that even if a country is sitting pretty in this statistic it's not a reason to stop it's a reason to push further and faster. 42,5% is not the endgame, it's a step on the way, and faster is definitely better.

Come on Ireland, pull your socks up. Think of all that lovely wind to harness!

@EU_Commission Since the UK, no sorry England, is often having to buy so much of its power from Europe why not just cut the UK off and let them install more wind turbines in Scotland to leech off? After all they thought they didnโ€™t need Europe so why help them with such easy supply? ๐Ÿ˜

A screenshot showing the UK is currently relying on 4.5% of its energy usage from EU countries including France, Norway, Belgium, and Netherlands. That is at the time of this post being made.

@EU_Commission A more better picture would be no greenhouse emission sources and more countries would be in darker hues. With this you would think Germany is a greener country in energy even though it's not.

@EU_Commission really? You're counting France's nuclear power as "renewable". Ever heard of "radioactive decay"?
#EU #Taxonomy is just the measure of your (our) hypocrisy, and of the disproportionate influence of French interests over the rest of the Union.
Remember your Taxonomy next time you want to speak about "facts" and "science based" decisions.

@EU_Commission there should be written something like: โ€žholy fuck, see how less renewable energy the countryโ€™s and the EU is producing!!!1!!11โ€œ

@EU_Commission can we prioritise no-carbon first and deal with "renewable" later please?
