Do you prefer typing emoji instead of stopping to choose them from a picker?

You can do this when writing a post on Mastodon's web interface by typing a : (colon) and then a keyword without a space. This will automatically bring up emoji with that keyword in their description.

For example if you type :sun it will show you emoji with the keyword "sun".

(Note that if there are many matches for a keyword, you may need to go to the picker to see them all.)

@feditips I actually wished the Android apps (Mastodon, Tusky, etc.) supported the picker, as well. Oftentimes, I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard with my Android tablet and not the default Android keyboard with the emojis built in.

@feditips that also works for the mobile app, but apparently only for server specific emojis.

@feditips
Even with my reading glasses on, I struggle to make out the useful details that differentiate sets of them.

Is there any way to view your instance's custom ones larger? ...or best would be zoomable!

@feditips thank you for this - good for when not on a Windows machine (for that I just use Win + . which also works v well TBH)

@feditips when I type :sun, I get no suns and these are the first 10 options to choose from ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

@feditips somehow I'm limited by what's available on this server. Can I access other server emoji's in the same way?

@feditips This tip seems to work only with English keywords.

@feditips I prefer to use words as part of a structured language.
