In case you missed it, you do not need to use the official Mastodon app! Third party Mastodon apps tend to have more features, and many people prefer them.

Mastodon uses free open source technical standards, so all apps have equal access to all of Mastodon's features.

There are lots of third party Mastodon apps, here are a few examples to get you started:

:android: If you're on Android, try Tusky, Fedilab or Tooot

:apple_inc: If you're on iPhone/iPad, try Toot!, Ice Cubes or Ivory

@feditips

Make sure to also tell em that the best experience might just be the "install nozhing and use the #webapp " one

@feditips only if they are free. I’ve noticed some aren’t.

I definitely recommend @megalodon for Android users. I've been using it almost exclusively after trying several other options. I still give the others a look every now and then when new features are released but always end up coming back to Megalodon.

@feditips on IOS I also like Metatext - better at refreshing. Use it AND ice cubes. Also, browser with advanced interface (many columns)

Do any of these apps allow for real chronological ordering of timelines?
I want to scroll down from oldest to newest.

@feditips I have both Ivory and Ice Cubes. Both are great. Only two I have used other than the Mastedon app. Will probably try others.

@feditips Personally I like Elk's Mastodon client for web. It's FOSS software and it looks pretty 🥺

Use it at elk.zone

@feditips I would also add Elk to the list. It is a PWA, so you can install it into your phone. Both the desktop and the mobile interface are very good.

@feditips can I actually save people to my currently empty lists in any of these clients? I really need lists and "read by hashtag".

Olin maahantuoja. En saanut selvitettyä vaatetuotannon ympäristövaikutuksia etenkin vesistöille maailmalla. Lopetin.

En voi hymistellä täällä "lintukodossa". Maahantuonti jatkaa saastuttamista verrattuna, että tuote syntyisi Suomessa. Nyt jään odottamaan tuleeko joku nillittämään kustannuksista. Olemme köyhiä, meillä ei ole varaa maksaa omasta tuotannosta saatikka kaikki eivät pysty ostamaan niitä. Nykyajan orjuus säilyy halpatuotantomaissa.

@feditips

I've been using @megalodon @elk and most recently @trunksapp

I'd recommend all three of them ahead of both the official app and the third party apps listed in your post.

@feditips I’m not sure what you mean by “official” mastodon app. Is it the app in in the App Store just called Mastodon, or do you mean the web instance? I don’t see anything in the App Store description about “official.”

@feditips I’ve yet to find anything better than the web interface. I’ve added a link to my mastodon instance on my iOS Home Screen. Works a treat
