In case you missed it, you do not need to use the official Mastodon app! Third party Mastodon apps tend to have more features, and many people prefer them.

Mastodon uses free open source technical standards, so all apps have equal access to all of Mastodon's features.

There are lots of third party Mastodon apps, here are a few examples to get you started:

:android: If you're on Android, try Tusky, Fedilab or Tooot

:apple_inc: If you're on iPhone/iPad, try Toot!, Ice Cubes or Ivory

@feditips On Android, Megalodon, a fork of the official Mastodon client that adds most of the missing features while remaining snappy and crisp looking, needs to be shown more love.

@feditips Also you can use elk.zone from @elk - a very Twitter-like UI. On your phone install it as an app, and you will never need another again.

@feditips I can't count the times I switched back and forth between Mastodon, Tusky and the web app. Since #bookmarking has been added I try to stay with Mastodon.

On Android, I use Tusky, Fedilab and Semaphore. They are all excellent, each in their own way. Worth trying them all out. Fedilab has extensive extra functionality, Semaphore is a marvel of minimalist elegance, Tusky is somewhere in between the two and ultra reliable. All three are great.

@feditips Add @trunksapp 👍 as it's arguably the best app for Android despite being in beta. It's also available for iOS & web.

@feditips I use elk (github.com/elk-zone/elk). Their UI interface is very smooth and easy to use.

@feditips thanks for the tip. Mastodon app was buggy on my iOS so checked out Ivory. OMG so much better.

@feditips I have been using Moshidon and it works really well, I like that supports material you and combines with the wallpaper I choose.
