@feditips Yes, smaller is better. I just wanted to prevent people from being disappointed when the laboriously self-installed server is sometimes very lonely.

I also see a danger for the Fediverse in large instances, actually instances should be limited to a few hundred users.

I hope the software will be improved in such a way that at some point it really doesn't matter which instance you're on.

@feditips Yes, a follower from a BIG instance increases your audience dramatically. 😀

However, I'm not sure how it is meant to work with many small instances as toot propagation will become a lot more difficult. You can't have followers on every 1-5 user instance. I guess, a more decentralized traffic relay concept is needed on the long run.

@feditips Thanks, that's the easy part. 😀

But what does the "Show replies to" setting do?

Is it another filter to further limit the toot's visibility?

@feditips That only partly true.

Big servers DO mean bigger audiences on the Fediverse. Because federated servers don't synchronize hashtags.

@feditips It opens a dialog box where I can select how to open it (Browser or like a normal toot using one of my accounts).

I'm using .

@dansup But this would require a discussion between the instance admins to find a compromise. Not a platform to accept the unconditional surrender of the other entity.

@dansup I don't think it's any of Instance A's business who Instance B federates with. Such a tool encourages abuse of power.

@dansup If you don't trust the admin, you shouldn't use the service. Pixelfed is open source, meaning any admin can modify the code to request more permissions and save all tokens.

@dansup I don't quite understand how this is supposed to work/help.

It's a lot of work for the admins to manually approve accounts. But how can admins tell if an account will send later on?

@feditips Ok, that would be exactly how I would have expected it to work. However, I feel like I sometimes see replies to people I don't follow and which haven't been boosted either.

I'll have to take a closer look, I guess.

@dansup Yes, I know... but you also post a lot about Pixelfed here on this account, so people follow you on both accounts.

@dansup I'd recommend to separate project and private accounts. In fact, I follow you more because of you as a person and less because of Pixelfed.
