Essentially you mean that in the absence of an algorithm to manipulate, it becomes purely a game of probability - the people with the most followers, have the most following eyeballs, so they are worth more.

@dansup interesting idea. This i suspect is going to be hardest getting traction fast. Social media is perceived as fairly dispensable, but private messaging is bedrock of many people's lives and communication.

Nevertheless, I can see it being a v handy encrypted DM embedded within many other #fediverse projects like #pixelfed #mastodon #peertube even...

I have to admit, I'm still struggling to know how best to use Pixelfed, ironically because of its interoperability with Mastodon et al.

I can post on my Pixelfed account, but have few followers there, so get greater visibility if i share that post by boosting it with my Mastodon account. But then I might as well have posted on Mastodon in first place, and use that account to interact with a few others on Pixelfed.

I think I'm either overthinking or being stupid tho! Thougts?

This is an excellent summary of how to access other servers local timelines. Had taken me weeks to get all that!

I'll upvote for browsing other local timelines within any other Mastodon server. Appreciate the decentralised nature of the setup here, but to the end user, there should at least be a single way to access the whole network

@dansup You'd think that closing one instance should in a way solve the issue because you force other servers to grow, and they create their own network effect / pull to new users.
