@darius Flickr had (maybe still has) a similarly complicated set of rules for "Can you see this image page?" There's contact restrictions like public, friends only, family only, friends and family. There's G-rated and sensitive. There's shared in a group and thus visible to group members.

@darius I find I rarely need it. Between shell looping and non-dumb use of find, not much need.
find dir args -exec prog {} \; # dumb one at a time
find dir ars -print0 | xargs -0 prog {} # tedious so much typing
find dir args -exec prog {} + # nice, no xargs needed
for thing in $(find dir args) ; do
# handy loop, but $IFS sensitive
done

It occurred to me recently that a video is a three dimensional array of pixels that we view in slices along one axis.
And what if we viewed it along a different axis?
Like a well-known 1920 wide x 1040 tall x 483 frames film opener as 1920 wide x 483 tall x 1040 frames?

@darius Just having the pipeline to record what people have highlighted strikes me as extremely creepy. It is why I have never been a fan of medium.com

@darius I've never read the JPEG spec. Still about 18 years ago I tried to get a CMYK JPEG into a more easily usable format. I wrote up my adventures in learning about the format here:

@darius I read "pop over" as "po power" at first and was trying to figure that out. "Is that a marketing term for radio signal?"

@darius I posted to Usenet proper (instead of private hierarchies or alt.*) just yesterday. So remembering me from Usenet covers a large portion of my life.

@feditips I found that the web UI, lacking a visible scrollbars, was hiding some notification settings from me. I think it was "poll completed" and "someone boosted" beeping for me

@dansup Fuck yes. I don't want my stuff going to their servers any more than I want to see their stuff.
I block incoming links to my website if they have Facebook tracking IDs ("fbclid" parameters).

@feditips While on this subject, I recently learned that someone can start a thread with followers-only visibility and then I can see replies if someone I follow replies to the thread and then that person is replied to by someone else I follow.
(post, followers only, from someone I don't follow): invisible to me
(first reply, from someone I do follow): initially hidden from me
(reply to the reply, from someone else I follow): visible in my Home feed, clicking on it gives me above
