I went to see a big rock and all I got was 128 photos of a big rock 🪨✨📷
During an after hours tour, I snuck away to set up the camera in the quiet spot. Uluru-Kata Tjuka national park is otherwise closed between sunset and sunrise.
This needed rather a lot of work to fix and replace overexposed foregrounds courtesy of traffic and a TV crew with flood lights (!!!) but I think it turned out okay. Next holiday in that direction must be during a new Moon.

Five hours of this rubbish.

Not that your Hercules cluster is no good, it's just not *as* good ;-)
This is a spherical collection of (up to) millions of stars, that orbits the Milky Way outside the plane of the disk. When you look at it, you should think of the sound of a swarm of bees.
It's about the same size on the sky as the full Moon and is naked-eye visible from a moderately dark location.

Another go at #comet 12P Pons-Brooks from the Wimmera this evening when it was at 5 degrees elevation, heading down into the smoke haze.
A single 20s exposure and a stack of 8 of them, stretched lots, cropped around the comet. A definite tail now.
That faint line at bottom right is QF694 from Adelaide to Melbourne, just crossing the border.

Yes! Got it! Comet 12P Pons-Brooks from inner Melbourne (Royal Park) at 6:45pm this evening. This is a tracked 5 second exposure at 200mm (cropped). At top right you can see Jupiter flanked by some moons.
The weird jittery dark trails across the entire image are flying foxes, which take off at sunset and fly over the park on the way to sources of nectar.

Hidden Supernova
My aim this weekend was to snap the Vela Supernova Remnant, but though I did catch it (just left of the middle) it is being overwhelmed by the gigantic Gum Nebula.
This image is about the same area of sky as you’d cover with your hand held stretched out in front of you.

ZWO duo-filter

Despite the accidental self-sabotage, 70 of so 30 second photos of the Eta Carinae nebula (NGC 3372) still contain enough data to bring out faint details. I don’t think I’ve photographed the background dust in this area before (other than the coal sack and doodad). I can only imagine what 300 exposures would’ve shown. Oh well, next time.
