This is great news! Also you're posting this and I am reading this on a social network that doesn't have an algorithm, a corporate/centralised structure or advertisers to satisfy.

So part of me is saying hmmm gee maybe there's some solutions to all this mess?

@Gargron
Is my day 2/3 now of Mastodon & Fediverse (only Pixelfed so far partly to help server with picture bandwidth when it was getting slow)

I feel a shifting in myself. A mental health benefit already?

Fresh air, merit based interactions, well formed conversations without having to be some trained performing seal for the algorithm gods

I had concerns with Twitter & Facebook (have deleted several mildy popular Twitter accounts over yrs) but Mastodon is a freeing experience. Better Social.

Yes of course. I suppose I understand infosec.servers or family servers and I understand say music or vegan groups as being two fairly different use cases we should both have access to 😀

Really would like to see more group/ subreddit type organisational community hub ability in the masto/calckey sphere, without going exclusively groups without the follows of users as the Lemmy sphere.

Kbin isn't quite it, for me.

Posting locally on Mastodonapp.uk would be a Brit audience but I'd miss out on toot.wales & mastodon.scots etc

Local posting to me resonates with very specific interest, or family, or company servers. Choosing just 1 server though, or running multiple accounts.

Where as an actual group, open or closed, in a subreddit sense, would seem a lot more functional, as you can belong to several.

More of a use perspective than data safety perspective I know.

Yes, I can see why the UK Conservative party wanted out at any cost...
