Four tile image. In the top row is the Pillars of Creation, three finger-like giant molecular clouds that are darker and more dense, relative to the background surrounding red nebula. These giant structures are parts of the Eagle Nebula, where star formation is occurring. In the bottom row are black and white images of NGC 1232, a face-on spiral structure that has intricate and tight winding spiral arms. The left-hand column images are sharper and exhibit less noise, whilst the images on the right, whilst still very good, are not as resolved.
