If you're browsing an account and it looks blank, it may not actually be blank!

Some accounts may not have been "noticed" by your server yet, and it may look like they haven't posted. You can find out if a profile really is blank by going to its "original page", which opens the profile on its own server.

There's more info about all of this in the article here:

➡️ fedi.tips/why-does-someones-ac

(To prevent your profile ever appearing blank, pin a post on it: fedi.tips/how-do-i-pin-my-post)

@feditips Thanks! I just pinned a post to keep this from happening

@feditips In a related phenomenon, if you're browsing an account and you can't believe its instance hasn't suspended it, maybe it has!

Cached copies work the other way too: you might be seeing the ghost of an account that was suspended. Check the original page before making a duplicate report (do still make a local-only report - your admin can locally-suspend it to prevent the copy from appearing while waiting for the originating server's suspension to federate out).

@feditips does pinning a post only make that post show up, or does this somehow make it so it loads all your posts?

@feditips
It would be better if #MastodonWeb had an option to open external profiles through original instance by default (in new tab), especially once extensions like #FediAct become common.

@feditips you seem to know lots of stuff and seem to be real helpful do you have any idea how to pin a post using the mastodon app? Sorry if this isn’t they right way to ask this question but I’m a little lost
