A server's Local timeline shows all the public posts by people on that server.

You can browse other servers' Local timelines by going to their websites and clicking on "Local". You don't need to log in or be a member because these are all public posts.

Some apps also let you follow other servers' Local timelines, such as Ice Cubes for iPhone/iPad or Fedilab for Android.

If you're comfortable using Github, you can vote for following Local to be added to core Mastodon at github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

@feditips
This is an excellent summary of how to access other servers local timelines. Had taken me weeks to get all that!

I'll upvote for browsing other local timelines within any other Mastodon server. Appreciate the decentralised nature of the setup here, but to the end user, there should at least be a single way to access the whole network

@feditips wait, how can I follow another server’s local timeline on Ice Cubes?

@feditips - In my opinion, it would be a great feature, if it is possible to publish a toot to any local timeline - not just the local timeline of your own instance.

@feditips i would love to be able to browse the local timeline of another instance on @ivory as well. Could this be implemented, @paul ?
