There's an option on Mastodon which prevents you seeing the same boosts again and again in your timeline.

The option is on by default, but unfortunately it is hardcoded to allow boosts to repeat after 40 other posts, which is way too low for many people.

There's a suggestion on the Mastodon github to allow people to set their own number after which boosts can repeat, so that they can reduce repeating boosts. If you're comfortable using github, you can vote for this at github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i

@feditips Life with that number boosted is much nicer. I make that 40 into 600 in my custom build for my instance ;)

@feditips Definitely voting that up. I'd like the option for infinity.

@feditips It shouldn't be a number of items anyway, it should be a date. "Don't show this to be more often than once every 90 days" for example.

@feditips BTW: #Ivory for iOS has its own setting to further reduce duplicate boosts in the timeline.

@feditips Thank you for this. I’ve been wondering why even though I have that option selected (it’s “Group Boosts in Timeline” yes?) I’ve been seeing the same posts by popular accounts boosted into my timeline.

@feditips Under what circumstance would you want to see the same post (especially one that you boosted yourself) appear in your feed again? The whole idea makes no sense to me.

@feditips Good to know. I've always thought that the grouping thing was broken or not compatible with the app I'm using.
I wonder where the value of 40 comes from. Makes no sense to me why anyone would want to see posts repeated that often. I feel the best solution would be an option to limit repeating posts by time duration instead of number of other posts.

@feditips I don’t get why anyone would wanna see the same post more than once. That number should be infinity in my opinion.

@feditips The responsible tech folks should set a number and be done with it. It's not gonna kill anyone either way.

@feditips Thanks for bringing this up! I was curious why the option to group boosts wasn't really affecting how many of the same post I saw. I went ahead and :+1:'d it... There may be some upper limit that's feasible but even like 3 months to a year would be good I think. If something's that popular I think there's a certain point at which I'd want to either be reminded or unfollow whoever's boosting the thing.

I'd just like an option to review my posts, like online so that I can expand or justify their emphasis. Without having to down load the entire batch just to get to one post.

Something like Twitter has. Yes yes I know twitter is the shits & I am here on Mastodon. But I am in many ways more tech-less than techie.

@feditips

Is there a discussion / tutorial for admins who are willing to tweak this on their instance?
