I've convinced people to use Matrix. In their app sits just one room. It worked and they communicated a bit. Only to come back a while later to find something wrong with encryption keys and all previous chat unreadable. That's where the FOSS discovery story ended most times.

I convinced SME's to look at Matrix for their client communication, but get feedback "We just can't offer that right now".

Other than that I think Matrix is better than Slack, which is a true mess.

@humanetech @gabek yes, there's a cognitive phenomenon where, if people perceive something to be widely used, and they've paid for it, it must be good. If, on the other hand, it's 'free', any barriers the encounter are unsurmountable and evidence of its inferiority. I'm forever baffled by the crap quality of the propietary software most people use, thinking it's 'state of the art'... it's amazing how highly you can polish a turd.
