"Birds" in French is spelled oiseaux, and is pronounced "wazo".

The "oi" makes the "wa" sound. The "s" makes the "z" sound Then you have "eaux" ALL TO MAKE The "O" SOUND

FOUR LETTERS TO MAKE THE "O" SOUND

It's like if we spelled "balloons" like "balleauxeauxns" JUST BECAUSE WE CAN.

@drmaddkap We Used to call Fidonet “Fideaux Net” in Louisiana. And there are “Geaux Tigers” signs and stuff all around LSU.

I've actually given the whole "using 'eaux' for the O sound" nonsense a name: they write in Faux-rench here.

Or the ils/elles conjugations that end in '-aient' to say "eh". 5 letters.
