@tom30519 So, we only have to dig a few meters to find water even on the equator. That's good news.

Still, its sad that an otherwise perfectly healthy lander will die because of dust accumulation. InSight could have been designed with an arm capable of dusting off the panels and continue to do useful science for decades.

A 2020 paper by Svein-Erik Hamran et al indicates that RIMFAX is able to detect sub-surface ice, although a preliminary report in August 2022 makes no mention of it.
