I love how so often in nature a functional thing has beauty that transcends the function we ascribe to it.
Here's a growing cone from a larch tree. In a couple of weeks it'll be a hard nut-like structure, ready to withstand abuse. In its current state it would not look out of place next to an anemone in some warm oceanic reef :-)
