@drmaddkap I tumble towels for twenty minutes, and then hang them up to dry. It's just enough to keep them soft. It doesn't bother me, but Mrs Wife insists.

Alternative answer: if you were going to iron the clothes straight away, you wouldn't want them bone-dry.
