Almost finished implementing Stories in the

The backend/federation logic already exists, and I thought that would be the hard part, until I had to implement video editing in the app ๐Ÿ˜…

I'm not surprised fedi projects don't develop their own mobile apps, it's not so easy beyond just text lol

@dansup oof, video editing is a thing on itself! Good luck with it!

@dansup I still haven't really figured out what the word Stories really refers to.

In Signal they say it's some kind of self-deleting semi-public message?

But they look more like a slideshow. A slide-show could at least imply a narrative which might fit the word "stories"?

What are they in Pixelfed? Sounds like it involves Video?

Do we also know what they look like in other Fedi apps?

@dansup

Happy to see more fedi development! ๐Ÿ˜€

Now imagine there might be someone who has never used FB or Insta. What's a Story?

Seriously.

@dansup tbh if I were making the app I would only have upload functions, no capture or editing. Making a good camera app and a good media editing app are strong challenges in and of themselves and I don't see any problem with those functions being separated out.

To put it another way, I want to have the best camera experience, the best editing experience, and the best sharing experience, and I want the workflow to be modular so I can use the media for whatever I want.
