The EU boasts the largest maritime area in the world, hosting over 48,000 species.

It is our shared responsibility to end the further destruction of oceans and seas.

At the Our Ocean Conference in Panama, we unveiled 39 commitments for 2023, with a total value of €816.5M, aimed at safeguarding this fragile ecosystem.

Our action will cover:
🌊 Marine Protected Areas
🌊 Marine pollution
🌊 Climate change
🌊 Sustainable fisheries and blue economies
🌊 Maritime security

@EU_Commission how much value do we extract from our maritime area each year?

@EU_Commission "Commitments"...it'd be good to hear what "actions" will be taken...actions work, "commitments" don't.

Commendable, of course. It’s a good start, though it should be €826B, not M. That said, attaching the monetary value is a bit like saying, another day I saved my neighbour from drowning for €26.30.

@EU_Commission How might these stats change if an independent Scotland attained membership?
