If you're using Mastodon through the web on a computer, you might like to know:

- You can type emoji by typing a colon : and then keywords. For example :sun will bring up emoji with the word "sun". Alternatively use the picker 😂

- There are many keyboard commands, press shift + ? (or just ? depending on your keyboard layout) to see all the hotkeys.

- There's an optional multicolumn web interface. Activate it at Preferences > Enable Advanced Web Interface, tick box and click "save changes".

@feditips *really* need to get GIF support working. A native browser/search would be soooo much nicer :blobcatfingerguns:

@feditips I highly recommend the Advanced Web Interface. You can bring up profile pages and comment threads without losing your place in your notifications and timeline and without needing to open a bunch of new tabs to do this like on the default web interface.

@introvertnudist @feditips Thanks for this one on the imoji keywords; I'll try it, and suggest it to friends, if it does what I want! Last time I looked at keyboard shortcuts, I didn't see this one.

@feditips Question: In the single-column layout, is there a shortcut to (re)focus toots in the main column? Apparently it's not 1-9.

By that I mean: Causing up/down keys to jump to adjacent toots, rather than scroll a little; and making j/k work at all.

The long way is hitting tab a bunch.

@feditips The problem with the web browser multicolumn interface is it still doesn't use the full width of my browser. If I'm using a very wide window, it should use it.

@feditips Sir, I think you are very successful in your field. If you don't mind, can you talk to me?
