Does that mean that will now have to pay $8 to Musk for each of its verified accounts on Twitter out of the tax payer pocket? Or risk have them spoofed by someone for fun or for profit?
Why?

Why not create a federated official instance? NASA is a pioneer of and has been operating web sites since the inception of the web. It can even start creating a federated social network for its future crews on the Moon and Mars.

@65dBnoise no because there's an official verification and a payed verification (twitter blue). you literally have to click on the tick to find out the difference (or look at the profile for a "official" grey mark on someones profile now)
