I'm thinking of a whole new approach to comments in @pixelfed

Imagine being able to delegate the ability to delete comments (on your posts) to your trusted friends

Or hide or reject comments containing a specific keyword

But not least, using privacy preserving sentiment analysis to automatically hide posts if you choose

We can take this in a whole new direction with proper comment controls, and proper mod tools based on your feedback!

Please Boost and give feedback on how we can improve ✨

@dansup @pixelfed yeah, there are still other features in need to be polished - collections for start… changing poster of collection is not trivial.

@dansup @pixelfed Delegation of comment deletion may actually be an application of a feature I've fancied for a comms system, myself: miblo.net/ppic_notes.html#:~:t

There a comment would be a "reference" to a post (think a line connecting the two), and deleting it would mean cutting it loose so folks wouldn't be led to it from our post.

Also, with the ability to describe or mark the specificity of references, rather than deleting, we could say "their comment harasses our post".

So I'm in favour.

@dansup

Not sure how you can "delete" such comments? They're still on the servers where they came from, so the best you can do is to wipe them from the database of your own server?

If so, such a feature should be called "hide" or "hide on this server", otherwise people might assume it causes cascading deletes through the Fediverse.

@dansup @pixelfed FWIW I can delete a comment on a post on FB without having to unfriendly or block. I’d like that on Mastodon/Pixelfed as well.

@dansup @pixelfed I like the sentiment analysis idea. I’ve always wondered about an experiment where you have a social network or forum that only allows positive sentiment.

@dansup @pixelfed please don't over build your projects. Most often simple is better.

@dansup @pixelfed There used to be this product called BlockParty for Twitter, which shares a lot of that spirit. I think it pivoted into something else privacy but I bet the original founders have some great insights on the issue!

@dansup @pixelfed I would like to see the ability to delete comments and posts in quantity instead of one at a time.
