Does anyone else have iMessage retention set to "Forever" and experiencing extremely slow and laggy performance of the Messages app?

It makes sense that one would, but want to tell if it's a typical problem before advising a friend to delete years of messages they've been carefully saving.

@searls I have it Forever and haven’t had issues. iPhone 12 still too.

@searls It is slow and laggy for me on macOS but not on iOS

@searls I don't notice a slowdown but now I'm curious how fast it is if I turn it off but I also don't want to lose message.

@searls I have “Forever” and 2.18GB of messages on-phone, 17.9GB in iCloud

@searls I have forever, with 21gb of messages, nothing dramatically slow
Some lags sometime recently with the last versions

@searls As a counterpoint, I have mine set to "Forever" and have yet to run into that. iCloud says my Messages usage is currently at 50.2 GB, so I'm assuming I'd be hitting something like that if it were just a matter of how much space was taken up.
