Not every country in the World has the amount of natural resources to count either.

The standard measurement system was borrowed from England used to measure land and lumber for financing. The USA is blessed with an abundance of resources, even still today.

@drmaddkap and here in Canada we use Metric for everything. Except for:
-the weight and height of people (except babies).
-the price tag of weighed items at the grocery store (even though at the scale at the register use $/kg).
-lengths bigger than an inch but less than a km (excluding snow fall amounts which go up to 14cm before becoming 6 inches).
