@darius @b0rk You know, in the case of network byte ordering, I suspect that seeing as it was called "Department Of Defense Internet Model" for a while before TCP/IP took that it could be that "worked best on the hardware the DoD had at the time" is the answer. But... you know, maybe we should figure out how to ask Vint Cerf directly?
