30 years ago, the Maastricht Treaty entered into force.

This Treaty established the European Union as we know it today, increasing cooperation between EU countries and creating EU citizenship.

EU citizens have the right to vote and stand as a candidate in 🇪🇺 and local elections in their country of residence.

As we look ahead to the 2024 European elections, today we remember how far we have come.

This is the history of democracy in action.

@EU_Commission There’s no #EuCitizenship. If there were, then every UK citizen living in the EU at the time of #Brexit would still hold their EU passports! It would have made many things so much easier for them.

But didn't the vote or referendum that took place for the creation of the EU get rejected by the people but was still pushed through despite that?

If that's the case. It's foundation was antidémocratic.
