Do you use the fedi.tips website? If so, could you let me know your opinion about the front page?

At the moment it has all the links to tips in a complete list, so that people can browse and click on exactly what they want answered.

However, some people have said they find this complete list approach overwhelming.

What do you think?

@feditips I would do drop-downs under the main topic, or have your top 5 most-requested under each category and then a "more" button under each section. So still all there but perhaps faster to sort through. Like a collapsible outline maybe.

@feditips I mostly read tips from your accounts and not your website

@feditips My main issue with fedi.tips (and similar websites by other people!) is the vague non-answers to "The Fediverse beyond Mastodon" fedi.tips/the-fediverse-beyond

My most pressing questions that aren't answered:
1. What are the limitations of using a single Mastodon account to interact with non-Mastodon servers? What are the advantages
2. What's the best practice for participating in multiple different servers? Have separate accounts? Link them somehow?

FWIW I voted it's nice to have links

@feditips I wanted to point out your list of servers to someone just now and it wasn’t trivial to find it. Maybe something on the home page, near the top, for frequently requested info?

@feditips While the onboarding process certainly needs simplification, retention is as big an issue, perhaps even bigger. When I joined Vivaldi.social a couple of months ago, there were 16K active users. Today there are 9.3K and the number has been dropping about 100 users a day. #Vivaldi #VivaldiSocial

@feditips The last time I was on your website, I found it very helpful. But when I have a bit of time I will look again with the goal of trying to answer that question.

@feditips I think it depends on the target audience. Some people like to have more text (like in manuals), some people like the have less (only quick tips). I don't think you can satisfy both camps.

@feditips I think it's fine just the way it is. Of course, I'm only one person, but I find it a great resource. And by the way, thanks for making it available. I really wouldn't be here on Mastodon without it.

@feditips I didn't know this existed, looks really helpful! The colors are a little hard on my eyes, so I'm not sure I'll be able to use it much. But if I'm looking to figure something out, I'll be sure to take a peek (and ctrl+F to save my poor developer eyes).

Thanks for creating a wonderful resource hub

@feditips
I think another level of organization is useful.

@feditips
I agree it's quite overwhelming, as someone who is beyond the tips stage, but who is trying to get people onboard.
Some rectangular category buttons and a search tab would be better in my opinion.

@feditips

Perhaps a short list of categories to choose from first?

An extra layer to drill through but less overwhelming?

@feditips
I find it useful as a list but miss a search function. It's a long read to find a special topic.
Strg F is a good idea but newbies don't know it.

@feditips The list is not exactly overwhelming but seeing the target audience for it, I must say, it can definitely be a bit more welcoming. Things like some further explained to the links, a side bar index for easy navigation, and more...

@feditips I’ve used the website to get on Mastodon - thanks so much! I’d vote in the poll but my answer isn’t in there. I think you just need to pull out some of the links into the really key things for newbies at the top as a sort of beginners guide so some but not all of the basics) and then keep the complete list at the bottom. I liked having the links at the bottom to answer those specific questions after I went through the initial questions I had.

@feditips you are asking the wrong question. I am not even aware of the tips… you didn’t even ask.

@feditips

I saw the poll has ended and I simply wanted to say thank you once more for all the volunteer work that you’re doing. Even taking the time to step back and re-assess your page by asking your audience! That’s great, really. 🙏
