If you want people's advice about any topic, type your question and tag it with , which is kind of like a bat signal for advice on the Fediverse 🦇

If you want a post to be shared, try adding "Boosts appreciated!". Some servers may even have an emoji for this such as :boost_ok:

By the way, remember that if you want your post shared publicly you have to give it a Public or Unlisted visibility setting. (More info about post visibility settings here: fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts)

@feditips I haven’t heard the desperate cry of “Please RT” since I left that other place. I see “boosts appreciated” going a similar way. Currently it’s all, “here’s this cool thing that will be good for you, me, and the community”, a la Twitter 2007. Soon it will be all, “GIVE ME LIKES FOLLOWS BOOSTS AND LOVE ME I’M INSECURE AND NEED YOUR VALIDATION”, a la Twitter 2022.

@feditips in my opinion, if you want your post boosted, create content worthy of boosting. #mastodon #boost

@feditips Why would I not want my post to be shared?

FediTips has moved!

p.s. To clarify, the idea of "boosts appreciated" is if you have a post that you particularly want or need people to share.

So, for example, if you're trying to get advice on something really important, you might add "Boosts appreciated" at the end.

It's not meant to be used for shallow attention seeking.

@feditips I have that same question, i.e. who can see my boosts? Just the person who #posted did the original post ... or? A lot of Mastodonians only boost others but I we follow each other and I would like to know that I am boosting the same post. For instance @lynnedubois #Fediverse boosted this post. Can she see that I also boosted it?

@feditips Asking fellow Mastodon users for advice is probably a much healthier practice than the life advice I've been soliciting from chatbots.

@feditips oh my gosh I didn’t know that about the public listing I thought that that was the default setting so you actually have to label it. Where does it go then if you don’t just on your profile?

@feditips I’ve got a question about „unlisted“ visibility: should I set all my replies to „unlisted“ or only when I’m replying to myself as part of a thread? I thought that if I reply to another person‘s post, my reply is not shown on the public timelines anyway. Is that right? What are other use cases of „unlisted“?
