In case you missed it, StreetPass is a free open source web browser extension which helps you find accounts to follow on Mastodon:

➡️ streetpass.social

After you've installed the extension, just use the web as normal. Your browser will start noticing sites that have Mastodon accounts, and build up a list of these accounts to follow.

(Owners of websites need to have a verified link to their site on their Mastodon profile. More info here: fedi.tips/how-do-i-verify-my-a)

@feditips@mstdn.social can I talk about actual StreetPass in a second and cry about Nintendo cutting off online services for the Wii U and 3DS which partially affects StreetPass :yeah:

either way the actual extension is super cool, although i haven't personally found it that useful yet
😭, a lot of sites i visit don't have mastodon

@feditips @tvler I feel like Nintendo might take exception to it being called that complete with even the same stylization and all. Though, on the other hand, it also would serve as a reminder that they didn't bother implementing a modern version if it and it makes people sad because it was a neat feature.

The "How to get verified" sites tend to neglect an important fact. The verification mechanism limits itself to sites something like less than 2mb. My favourite method for web content starts at 2mb. So I had to make a special page for verification.

Basically, there's no real reason for someone to visit my verification site. And I suspect that I'm not alone.

I suspect that you could browse all day and not collect any interesting sites/accounts.
