@lisa_b_davidson Yes, that is the rule. And I fully get the problem. I recently started the initiative @TranslateScience to make it easier to do science without English.

But what would be the alternative? Without moderation you get Twitter or Facebook. Even if we would find that acceptable, other servers would block us.

If we would ever get really large we might be able to get moderators who master these digitally small languages. And people could start a community/server for their language.

I get it and also see the difficulties, especially moderation but also translation for other people in the instance.

I wonder - if there are people who are put off joining @fediscience.org (or another Mastodon instance) by not being permitted to toot in a language of their choice, another option maybe to urge/petition DeepL to work on adding it to their languages.
