Asperger's

makes sense. My behaviors, my thoughts, my way of interacting, etc.

And now I realize that I have spent 50 god damn YEARS trying to wear a mask, and never knowing that there was nothing WRONG with me this whole time. I'm just neurodivergent.

50 YEARS being embarrassed because I'm different, never knowing that, yeah, I'm different in a way that a lot of people are, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I just had to share all that. I'm ... overwhelmed. (3/3)

@drmaddkap This may be just coincidence but it seems like I hear ADHD and Asperger's syndrome mentioned together a lot. Is there any correlation?

@drmaddkap I was diagnosed ADHD late in life too. Once I started getting medication and support for it I wondered why I waited so long. I did get diagnosed with Asperger’s when it was still called that. But trying to cope has been difficult especially when I was going through the public school system.

I’m down to my last three pills of medication for ADHD and worried what will happen when I’m out. I had to switch medical providers and haven’t been able to get a refill yet.

@drmaddkap I just diagnosed myself at 52 as a result of working with children on the spectrum, then I read Unmasking Autism and it quite confirmed my self diagnosis, and I had a very similar sense of everything falling into place. It helps me understand who I am very clearly, and while I am sad for the little girl and young woman who didn’t understand why they couldn’t do things like other people did, I’m so glad that I can go the rest of my life without the burden of thinking that I’m a failure. I’m just different

@drmaddkap From my understanding, fandom surveys have found there to be a positive correlation between fandom participants and those with a diagnosis of autism.
