@EU_Commission @EC_Commissioner_Breton I think the conclusion that can be drawn from their new moderation and public statements, even more obvious than before, is that Twitter should be written off as having any continued value as a social media platform.

Democratic institutions would do well to stop expecting people to tune into that megaphone of abuse for official updates. Official Mastodon instances or even RSS is a more conscionable chocie.

Just a naked power game. With Twitter censorship halted, you lost the ability to control the narrative. You can't have citizens actually speaking their mind - they would say true things for which you have no answers. Therefore, Twitter must contained at all costs!

@EU_Commission I am seriously reconsidering my initial opinion of the EU. "Increasing moderation," inability/difficulty to access non-mainstream information sites, blocking Russian sites (exactly the same as Putin vs some western sistes)... where is the freedom of information? There are only two hypotheses: 1- they consider us all to be decerebrate idiots; 2 - they want to conform everyone to a single thought directed by political-financial interests.

It's important to acknowledge an important contributor to this.

For decades, the media became obsessed with "both sides" reporting. They would report the consensus of the relevant experts, then dig up some random quack and present that as an equally valid opinion.

The media spent decades training the public to disregard expert opinion, all in the name of "unbiased reporting."
