I am really sorry if I interpret this wrongly, but this looks to me like an upfront contempt on the opinion of others. "Stay out of our yard". I am a developer, and I also have product development skills, and project planning and the like. There's an interface between all the people involved in creating software. This thinking looks like ivory tower-y. And it often leads to software that doesn't appeal to the audience it is created for. Might work for low-level infra

I don't think it is contempt though, just seeing everything in extremes.. "a guy comes by and doesn't contribute anything of value".. that happens. It also happens someone comes by and does say something worthwhile.

@humanetech@mastodon.social @blacklight@social.platypush.tech @ArneBab@rollenspiel.social I think there is value in separated communities. If you build a tool to cater to everyone, you're going to cater to no one. Developers have different needs and desires than translators, or UX designers. There's nothing wrong with providing them different interfaces and platforms. This has been working quite well for a long time, it's only in recent times that we somehow want all of them to be treated the same, even though this creates conflict rather than community. Experienced developers and random users of the program aren't the same people, and pretending like they are will only harm both.

And that's probably why Drew didn't like the emoji patch for #Sourcehut. Sourcehut is trying to appeal to people who want to get things done effectively, using existing tools that have proven to work. There is no value on trying to make #Sourcehut into yet another #Github clone, since those people are catered for by Github already.
