✨ Community Consensus

I'm glad I made a poll to ask if Pixelfed should hide NSFW posts from the local and network timelines.

I get reports on pixelfed.social about NSFW posts, even though they are labeled as NSFW so I went ahead and updated the logic to hide them but before I push the commits I figured I should ask our community.

While I do have final say, in these situations it's crucial to gather community consensus.

I'm not always right, and y'all help us make the right decisions

@dansup I think the user already has the tools to see what she wants to see and hide things that are already hidden makes not much sense to me.
I also think that non-sexual nudity should not need to be labeled (but that's a different issue and I respect the policy of my instance)

While I totally get where you're coming from, I think it's highly critical to allow puritanical zealots to bully you into such a change via report-bombing... As is, NSFW posts are already hidden/blurred by default, w/o any chance for personal preference. If that also rustles the jimmies of those zealots, EVERYTHING will.

You can't win against them unless you completely submit to their demands.

Again: no hard feelings, just my €0.02 on this topic as a "nsfw" photographer.

@dansup I'm not sure if that's already the case, but I think it could be interesting to tell the instance audience when the server contain adult content and when it's mainly adult content, so that content moderation is easier for other servers. I'm thinking about family friendly servers that would want to keep this content from the timeline (as well as the opposite, servers that would want to show NSFW content and maybe without CW)

@dansup To add to what I posted as @silverlightandskin

I'm highly critical of such a move. Been a fan of PixelFed ever since discovering it. I was ready to move/mirror my gig pics there when I saw that @PixelDroid is getting better daily.

But given that I mostly shoot Metal, I do wonder if I'm safe from such zealots - i.e. "OMG SATANIST MUSIC!!! NSFW!!!"

After all, the Satanic Panic of the 1980s was also fanned by some Karens, crying havoc and screaming "This is not safe for our children!!"
