An alien battleship in another world.

That's not too far from reality: an alien (to Mars) spaceship dropping "wheels on the ground", then moving out, and dying.

The Sky Crane after delivering to the Martian ground. Umbilical cut.

SkyCrane, its umbilical cut

Just imagine seeing this thing arriving somewhere on Earth, lowering a rover then taking off. Science fiction becomes reality!

Too bad the Sky Crane had to crash land after depositing Perseverance; it would have made a great addition to the Jezero history museum collection! 🙂

A split second before the umbilical cable is cut, the Sky Crane captures its last image of the rover in the cloud of dust raised by its thrusters.

The camera was located on the Sky Crane but the images were transferred through the umbilical cable to the rover.

@65dBnoise Not even any terminal telemetry AFAIK. The crater it made was its last science.
