I might be biased, but I think this is an interesting question

Mastodon does provide many photo sharing features, and so does Pixelfed

The real difference is in how Pixelfed limits feeds to photo/videos compared to Mastodon's microblogging

It's a different experience, but that doesn't mean you have to limit yourself to one or the other!

The user-experience is different.

A lot different.

And that isn't a minor thing.

From the user's point-of-view, that is all they know of an application. (Things like the back-end are almost completely invisible to them.)

@dansup BTW I was wondering: how does Pixelfed handle image uploads? I assume it doesn't butcher them the way Mastodon does, but does it let them through unaltered or does it do some cleaning up or whatever?
