It's also a confirmation that many small instances are better than a few big instances, because it means fewer events to synchronize overall: in the most optimized case of one person per instance you only sync events that are relevant, none are irrelevant.

@rakoo agreed. I think the solution to "how do you scale a mastodon server (or any federated server really)?" is: don't. keep it pretty small. hundreds of users even, not thousands, certainly not 10k+
