The European Digital Identity Wallet is taking shape.

The wallet is our proposed solution to help people access online services in the EU quickly and safely.

Today, we published a common EU Toolbox to set standards to create a trusted and secure digital wallet.

A pilot will soon test some use cases, such as driving licenses, eHealth, and payments.

Together with EU countries, we will ensure the highest level of security and privacy. Nothing will be left unchecked.

@EU_Commission Austria released ID Austria with apps associated that can be considered as a kind of a wallet. Will a future strategy include such existing solutions or this mean more new apps and spreading of the same data for the same stuff in different apps?

@EU_Commission The implementation of such critical piece of infrastructure must be #OpenSource, so it can be *trusted* by citizens by being transparent and provide security by being auditable by independent researchers. I hope #eu will make right decision here.

@EU_Commission How does this solution factor in emerging standards, such as Decentralized Identifiers (DID)? Will the Digital Identity Wallet be self-sovereign, i.e., be controlled by the identity owners with strong privacy protection methods in place?
