@atomicpoet I feel like joinmastodon.org should have this functionality. One "Regional" category is not really enough.

So from a total newcomer perspective - having to find an initial instance to be your home base is kind of off-putting. If there were a couple of default geographical or category instances to place people into temporarily (require a instance move after a few days?) it might be more inviting while people acclimate to this platform. 🤷
