@dansup I registered my account in August 2018 and I am impressed by the development. It's such a nice community.

@dansup @pixelfed I’m really enjoying it, the iOS app is fantastic. The only thing I miss from Instagram is the ability to see what people I follow are liking, so discovery is a bit limited. But I’m guessing the Fediverse simply doesn’t work like that?

@dansup
The main thing I'm missing is better discoverability for people to follow.
I use the discover functionality sometimes, but recommendations based on followers and followed tags would be cool.

@dansup
I don't know if I'm missing it, but an easy way to share posts on #Pixelfed to our #Mastodon account would make it perfect to me. If I've missed something, I apologise.

@dansup I think discoverability is weak at the moment. There are some easy wins like being able to follow hashtags in the Pixelfed app (You’ll soon find new people to follow) . Look at the user friendliness and think of how to avoid errors like not being able to post because your instance (which most users have no control over) isn’t up to date.

I have been using Pixelfed since late 2020 and basically throughout that time there has been a constant issue with federation reliability. The problem applies to both my own posts (sometimes they do not appear on the official Pixelfed instance, on pixelfed.de, or on mastodon.social) as well as the posts of people I follow (almost every day I can see that some posts from people I follow do not appear on my timeline). This problem also affects comments.

@dansup The iOS app is great, but I haven’t figured out how to follow hashtags.

@dansup Daniel, looking at signing up. What instance would be best for someone in the UK? I’ve looked a few times but without signing up. Thank you.

@dansup @pixelfed the app needs a lot of improvements. Is there any designated place where I can report bugs and suggestions?

@dansup Hi. New to the Fediverse via Mastodon. For me PixelFed has a different value proposition than Mastodon. Looking for an Insta alternative I started with the PixelFed Beta app and my instance I joined to test it out went and disppearred on me. No warning whatsoever. As this is my photo library, I’m now far more inclined to self host PixelFed than I am Mastodon to retain control of my pictures/data. This is one area PixelFed itself needs to better supportive of compared to Mastodon.

@dansup when I tried it, my main issue was how instances did handle the file resolution and size — there was always a big discrepancy between what is stated on the “max photo size” and what I was able to upload — the images were always downsized and re-compressed even when I tried to optimize them manually.

It would be really nice for the upload form to be more transparent on what would happen with the image, and have a way to preview the final result.

@dansup I’ve been using the new app and I’ve given some feedback specific. But what I feel is missing is some of the same stuff that was missing in Instagram. Right now you are driving pictures to a phone. That’s it. So people will just shuffle through the photos, maybe making the occasional comment. In this configuration, you are developing the app for one user when you actually have two users: the artist and the viewer of the art. As an artist and photographer that’s a fail from my perspective. The design as it stands discourages conversation around the piece. It discourages any interactions between the artist and the viewer other than the occasional eggplant emoji. Take a look at the people from Mastodon.Art and how they are having to use Masto. Maybe add some of those features in as well. Maybe add a separate field for hashtags. As it stands, I can already see the “influencer” class being happy with it.
