The Android app Subway Tooter let's you read the local timelines of (multiple) servers without having an account there.
With Subway you add "pseudo accounts" for each instance you only want to read.
You can also set up a real account, and then you can reply to toots on pseudo accounts using your real account. Sounds strange but works.
The UI needs some getting used to. 😀
I consider Subway a gem.
